In former athletes, more frequent exercise correlated with better cognition, mood, and overall quality of life, while a lack of fitness correlated with worse quality of life. Changes in appetite, fatigue, sleep disturbances, and loss of energy are all commonly reported in former athletes.


It can also be impacted by psychosocial and environmental factors. These can include economic stability, neighborhood and physical environment, education, food, community and social context, and health care system.
